Somewhere on the spectrum between a vintage queen and a hipster, you'll find me. I have a soft spot for patterns, especially florals and animal prints.

How to Stay Positive

Any tips in this department can't hurt!

I know myself. I'm the kind of person that gets sad when I spend too much down time alone. Knowing this, I try to plan fun things to do.

Unfortunately, my friends are pretty busy this summer, so planning any activity requires at least 3 to 5 business days. In addition, my boyfriend is on vacation this week. So between him and my friends being preoccupied, I don't have many people to talk to. On top of that, I'm about to get my period.

With these factors in mind, I decided to make plans for myself to stay positive.

Work

I know, I know -- this is lame. But I love where I work! I work with so many fun, motivated women. They are full of personality and it's nearly impossible to feel down when I'm around them. There's always something I can occupy myself with to help someone in some way, which makes me feel good.

Errands

Having a reason to get out of the house is one way for me to stay positive -- even if its just to Walmart. While there, I treated myself to some goodies just for me! I feel super spoiled and I'm excited to try out the new products I bought.

Chores

If you're like me, then you're a clean freak. It's a pain having to keep up with chores, but the end result is so satisfying. In my mind, I deserve to live in a clean apartment, so I make it happen! It also gives me a clear head to think. Like, how can I think straight if my surroundings are chaotic?

Organizing and Redecorating

Going off of the previous category, having a tidy apartment gives me something I can look forward coming home to. That's why I always put things back into their place. Or, if I'm feeling particularly motivated, I'll rearrange my room to keep things fresh! Overall, being organized makes me feel like I have my life together.

Me Time

I took myself on a date to the public pool at the beginning of the week. Just seeing other people having a good time and being in the middle of it all makes me feel involved. It was also good to get outside and bask in the rays. I got sunburned, but putting on aloe will keep me busy.

Social Media

This might not be the best mechanism, but it works for me. Whenever I need a confidence boost, I post on Instagram. Receiving notifications helps me to feel less alone. As pathetic as that sounds, it makes up for the lack of text messages I get!

Games

This is just another way to keep myself focused. It keeps my brain active and makes me feel smart! I recommend trying out Sudoku or Wordscapes. Additionally, there's apps specifically for training the mind, such as Luminosity or Elevate. This way, you don't lose any brain cells as you play!

Exercise

Being active helps me feel good as well. I always feel good when I've done something to improve my overall well-being. As Elle Woods once said, "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don't kill their husbands. They just don't."

Call Mom

So, I realize that this blog post turned into ways to stay busy rather than stay positive, but my mom always has better advice. For me, talking to my mom is one of the best things I can do. She reassures me that things will be okay and tells me to focus on the positive aspects of my life and count my blessings. Plus, my mom reminds me that its normal to feel sad sometimes and that, "This too shall pass." By relaying this message to readers, I hope we can all find peace within ourselves.

The best is yet to come!
