Underated: Disc Golf

Why would you actually golf when you can disc golf instead?

My boyfriend and I took another trip out to IUP's Co-Op park because he wanted to show me the ropes of disc golf before playing with his friends tomorrow. (How nice of him!)

For those who don't know, the basic goal of disc golf is to land your frisbee in the hole (pictured above) using the least amount of throws possible (if you choose to keep score). Like golf, there's "drivers" and "putters" except in frisbee form. The type of frisbee you use will depend on your distance from the hole. You "tee off" pretty far away, so you always start with a driver. After getting closer to the hole, most use a putter -- unless you're me and just use a driver the entire time.

After learning the basics, my biggest challenge was getting my frisbee to go a long distance, which meant more throws. With practice, it became easier and more entertaining than I initially thought it would be. Willy showed me how to keep my arm and wrist level so that my frisbee didn't fly off on an angle in the wrong direction. More importantly, we had fun! Willy was also super encouraging and happy about us playing together.

Tomorrow we're going to Deer Lakes Park in Tarentum, PA. I hear it's really nice and apparently huge! Therefore, it could be a bit more challenging. Whether or not we keep score, it'll still be pretty laid back. (And at least I'll have the excuse that it's only my second time playing!) Wish me luck!
